This next letter I pray that everyone at least has one of them.
I won’t say much more.
Drum roll please…
We all have them. We gain them and we lose them. Some stick forever and some only hang around you for certain aspects. So, what is a real friend? These three verses from Proverbs sum them up:
Proverbs 18:24 defines what a friend is:
“There are “friends” who destroy each other, but a real friend sticks closer than a brother.”
It sounds simple right? But what if someone is being bullied? You stand up for them, but you have to be WISE.
With friendship, you help each together and sometimes they have to give you painful advice. And some advice comes out in a way that offends you and you would rather be around people who at mean to you!
But Proverbs 27: 5-6 says, “An open rebuke is better than hidden love! Wounds from a sincere friend are better than kisses from an enemy.”
So, since the Bible says that we need to correct our friends now and then, we just keep being negative to our friends right? Of course not. God also wants us to encourage our friends especially after they have done wrong. You might have heard some people saying that for every negative, you need three positives to keep your self esteem going. No one likes to feel crushed.
Proverbs 16: 24 says:
” Kind words are like honey-sweet tot he soul and healthy for the body.”
Sounds wonderful doesn’t it? This is a pretty deep observation of Friendship but I personally think it is important. I hope you all are good friends anyway, but sometimes, we need to stop and think of what we are doing.
So, how do we encourage our friends? How are we a good friend? What can we do to build our relationships with each other.
