Happy New Year.
I hope your first week of 2018 was wonderful.
This is normally the time when people make New Years Resolutions.
They get really excited and think, “Yes! This is the year that I’m going to accomplish my dreams!”
And then February comes, and poof. Those dreams either become a mundane routine or disappear altogether.
So what’s the point of having New Years Resolutions if you can’t keep them?
Here are two thing to think about:
- Having goals and dreams are very important, so don’t disregard them.
2. You can achieve those Resolutions, if you have a strategy and faith.
I have, and this is one of the verses that kept me going:
God wants us to use our talents to bless people, and each year, He keeps showing me new ways, from changing my style to even finding a talent. For instance, I was blogging on and off for a few years, but last year, not only did God tell to blog more often, but He also told me to write other things such as a novel and a short story. This Year, He’s telling me to be more linguistic and to push my writing further than I normally would. But I’m breaking it down, and asking God to show me which steps to take first.
So those are talent-related resolutions, but what about trying new things?
Does God want us to do something new?
The answer is yes.
New things are refreshing. They bring life and joy to us. They open up doors that we wouldn’t have even imagined opening. Whether it is a new alteration of blessing people, or taking up a new hobby, God loves it when we start something new.
It can be fun. It can be scary. But whatever the situation is, we must remember that God is with us, and He has a wonderful plan for us.
Are you still wondering of what New Years Resolutions to take?
Here are a few categories and questions that you can list them in:
Spirit- Do I give God time to talk? What ways can you spend more time with God? Are there any Christian retreats that I can go to this year? What has God been trying to say to me?
Soul/Mind- What is my mind-set at the moment? Am I taking risks? What ways can I keep that mind-set going? Are there any films, books or songs that can motivate me?
Body-Am I getting enough sleep? Am I doing sport? Am I eating correctly? Have people close to me raised points of concern towards my health?
Talents- Am I using my talents? Is God telling me to try another way? Should I join a certain group that encourages what I like to do? How can I be a blessing to people? Should I try and compete in this swimming competition or do a music exam?
School- Am I giving my best? How am I studying? Is that way working? Am I in extra-curricular activities? Am I respectful to my teachers? Do I know any Christians at school?
Social- Is social media helping me, or is it making me feel low? Am I kind and encouraging on social media, or am I just putting people down? Am I trying to be popular? Do I feel lonely? Have I told my parents how I’m feeling? How can I talk to others? What are my interests? How do I feel around certain people? Do I talk to anyone outside of school? Do I have an older person that I can just talk to?
This is just a kick-starter, but you get the idea. And talk to your parents to see if they have any ideas on how to work on your goals. And remember, take steps towards your goal, e.g. if you want to be a writer, start a blog and connect with other bloggers and writers such as Livy Lynn(she’s amazing and a great encouragement if you’re a new writer). If you want to get good grades, study a bit each day.
But do something, trusting God to guide you.
How about you?
What are your New Year’s Resolutions?
How do you go about creating them?
It’s 2018. Make the most of New Beginnings.
